Delta State Government, FG to acquire 6,000 hectares for cassava production

Misan Ukubeyinje, the Delta Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources says the state and the Federal Government will acquire 6,000 hectares of land to boost cassava production in the state.

Ukubeyinje said this on Wednesday in Asaba at a stakeholders meeting with the state chapter of the Nigerian Cassava Growers Association (NCGA). He said the initiative was part of the Federal Government’s cassava value chain programme.

The Commissioner said that the state government planned to site the project in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state. He also said that an agreement would soon be reached with the Abraka monarch on the land.

“Under the cassava value chain initiative, the Federal Government has asked us to acquire 6,000 hectares of land. On Thursday, I will be meeting with the Ovie of Abraka to consolidate the plans.

“The Federal Government will bear the cost of 4,000 hectares, while the state government will take care of the 2,000 hectares,’’ he said.
