BEDC wins CBN cashless payment award

Benin Electricity Distribution Plc says it has emerged as the first electricity distribution company to win in the maiden edition of the Electronic Payments Incentives Scheme Efficiency Award.

The company said it came top in the corporate category of the Best Cashless Driver award.

The award was initiated by the CBN and the Nigerian Inter-bank Settlement System Plc, a statement by the BEDC said on Sunday.

It said the award was presented to the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, Mr. Ernest Edgar, who represented the BEDC at the event.

According to the statement, the award followed the company’s outstanding contributions to the growth of electronic payment in the country.

The company was said to have adopted e-payment in its activities in the electricity distribution industry.

The statement read in part, “The Best Cashless Driver in the corporate category which had two corporate nominees, BEDC and Ikeja Electric, is a platform to recognise, appreciate and reward stakeholders, notably in the payment industry, such as banks, payment processors, card issuers, payment terminal service providers, mobile money operators as well as government and private sector companies that have contributed to the success of the cashless initiative across the value chain.”

The award was presented by the CBN Deputy Governor, Operations, Alhaji Suleiman Barau, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, NIBSS, Mr. Adebisi Shonubi.
