The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos, Hyginus Omeje, has said the body is collaborating with the Insurance Awareness and Advocacy Group to stop motorists from using fake insurance.

During the commencement of road safety and insurance awareness campaign in Lagos, he said most times when accidents happened some victims were not compensated because of ignorance.

“It is in line with the above that the Lagos State Sector Command of the FRSC in collaboration with the IAAG is organising this awareness campaign,” he said.

He said it was a proactive step geared towards sensitising and creating robust awareness as most motorists were carrying fake insurance certificate ignorantly.

The President, IAAG, Mr. Idongesit Mbat, said the IAAG Nigeria is a body of professionals from different sectors of the economy working together to promote insurance awareness in Nigeria.

“Today, we are starting another great journey of bringing insurance awareness to at least 20 million people in Nigeria in the next three years. It seems tough but we are determined to achieve this,” he said.

Mbat said it was commencing a partnership with the FRSC to promote motor insurance awareness in Lagos and planned to extend this to other states.

He observed that many still lived with negative impressions about insurance, which showed that the work was enourmous and could not be left to the insurance industry alone.

“It is sad that despite the efforts by the National Insurance Commission, the Nigerian Insurers Association and insurance companies towards addressing this situation, many Nigerians are still not aware of the many benefits they can derive from insurance,” he said.

He said the IAAG was working with the fire service and would soon commence fire insurance awareness in partnership with the fire service.

Mbat added that the group was working with its partners in the engineering/construction sector to promote builders’ liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance, contractors all risks and other related insurance products.

He also said it was working with healthcare professionals to promote health insurance awareness, as well as educational institutions and religious organisations to promote insurance awareness.
