By on August 9, 2013

Ethiopian Airlines has said it is set to commence four weekly flights to Nigerian cities including Enugu, the capital of Enugu State beginning from August 24.

Mr Tewolde Gebremariam, the Ethiopian airline chief executive confirmed this to newsmen in Addis Ababa.

It will be recalled that the airline in a statement last month announced plans to expand its Nigeria routes with the addition of four weekly flights to Nigerian destinations including newly inaugurated route to Enugu beginning from this month.

“We are ready and we are proud to add Enugu in Nigeria to our wide global network. The addition of Enugu to our network is a continuation of our commitment to provide the best possible connectivity options to passengers travelling between Africa and the rest of the world,“ the chief executive said. He said the Ethiopian Airlines is the first international carrier to fly to Enugu, which becomes the third Nigerian city where the Airline would operate.

Enugu will also be Ethiopian’s 46th African and the 76th international destination.

“Passengers from the three gateways in Nigeria – Lagos, Abuja and Enugu now have the opportunity to fly to destinations throughout the Ethiopian airline network,” he said.

Ethiopian is the largest carrier in Africa in terms of passenger and cargo network operating in more than 75 international destinations across five continents.

Ethiopian, an indigenous and Pan African airline is one of the oldest carriers flying to Nigeria and serving the country since 1960 by boosting trade, culture and tourism ties with Nigeria.
