Borno Government partners NIMASA on Marine Engineering

The Borno state government has entered into partnership with Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency ,NIMASA,through the sponsorship of 25 of its indigenes selected across the 27 local government areas of the state to study seafarers and marine engineering deployment programme in India and UK .

The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon. Bello Ayaba disclosed this to newsmen at a mid term score card of Governor Kashim Shettima held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Maiduguri .

Hon. Ayuba said the study would be a four year degree programme which will take one year in India, two years in the United Kingdom and one year on the high sea, adding that the partnership involves the payment of all the students’ studies expenses in the ratio of 60 percent by the Borno state government and 40 percent by NIMASA.

He said the state government also sent 40 teachers to India to undergo training on the use of K-YAN machines which will soon be introduced to all schools in the state, stressing that the government has also procured 500 K_YAN machines to be distributed to some schools across the state as a pilot project.

According to the Commissioner, the government has also spent N227 million to NCC and NBTC for accreditation of courses at Ramat Polytechnics, MOGOLIS and other colleges of education across the state and that the state government had also spent N550 million on the renovation and reconstruction of MOGOLIS in order to provide conducive learning environment to both lecturers and students.

He further stated that the state government had paid all outstanding students scholarship allowances from 2009 to date, adding that 100 law students were provided with laptop computers each as well as settling all their law school fees .

On the proposed state university, Hon. Ayuba said “government is making concerted effort to ensure the successful take off of the state university. Already, an executive bill has been passed into law by the state House of Assembly and duly signed by Governor Kashim Shettima.
