President takes Vacation break in order to meet Lawmakers over 2012 budget

By on April 5, 2012

The leadership of the National Assembly will meet President Jonathan today in order to iron out issues concerning the passage of the 2012 budget. The President, who is currently on a working vacation in Abuja will host National Assembly leaders on matters concerning the budget.

The nation has been restless over the non-passage of the budget into law by the President, who then embarked on a vacation after receiving the budget back from the National Assembly.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Solomon Enang, said the President has a 30-day-window with which to scrutinize the budget after it was sent back to him.

However this recent development will offer some sort of hope to analysts, observers and indeed the country at large that a consensus may be reached sooner than later.

One of the problems revolving around budgets and their poor impact on national development has been how long it takes for the budget to be passed. When a budget is still waiting to be passed well into four or five months after the beginning of the year, then how is such a budget to have impact on socio-economic development?
