FCTA Awards N10bn Contract for Satellite Roads

By on March 27, 2011

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has awarded contracts valued at about N10 billion for road construction in the six area councils in the FCT.  Minister of FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed, disclosed this while addressing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithful at a rally in Kuje town. Mohammed said he was deeply moved to action when he came to FCT and found that the few existing roads in the satellite towns were in deplorable conditions while construction of new roads was highly needed to open up the areas.
He said that apart from roads, other essential needs like water, electricity and health facilities were being extended to the area councils. For instance, he said that three more hospitals and health centres are to be built in Kuje Area Council alone.

The highpoint of the rally was the Minister’s reception of defectors from the opposition All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and other parties in the area to the PDP. Receiving the defectors, he thanked them for identifying with President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who he said has good programmes for Nigerians. The defectors numbering 109 comprised ANPP local officials and were led by the Chairman of the party (ANPP) in Gwagwalada, Alhaji Sambo. A list containing their names and contacts was handed over to the Minister by Sambo.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the defectors, Sambo said they decided to cross over from ANPP not just because of the President alone but also because of the FCT Minister and a former Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Senator Usman Jibrin Wowo both of whom defected from ANPP to the PDP last year. He stated that by the defection of the 109 leaders to the PDP, the ANPP has become extinct in Kuje Area Council. “All members of the ANPP in Kuje have all decamped to the PDP from today and we assure you of our 100 percent loyalty,” he
said.
