The new feature will provide additional security for all users of Western Union in Nigeria. The service, according to the company, has been extensively tested and rolled out, and now available in more than 400 cities and towns in Nigeria.

With an Agent network of over 4,000 agent locations across Nigeria, Western Union’s network in Nigeria constitutes the single largest financial services network in the country.

According to Western Union in a statement, the PIN Pad payout system has been thoroughly tested and successfully deployed across the Western Union network over the last 18 months.

The new system, it said, is already live and being used by consumers across more than 2,500 locations. The vast majority of Western Union transactions in Nigeria are processed on the new platform.

Commenting, Western Union’s Regional Vice President for North, West & Central Africa, Aida Diarra said, “we are always focused on addressing our consumer’s needs in Nigeria. We are very aware that transaction security is critical to our consumers and the new PIN pad system is the latest example of our efforts to provide our consumers with more control over their transactions.
